Welcome to Chord Manager 32 ! I have many great tips for you ,so leave the tips turned on for a little while
One of the new features of CM32 is the drag & drop sequence composition... just try to drag a chord from chord manager to the sequence window...
While dragging a chord you can scroll the sequence window by placing mouse over the right scrollbar arrows.
Many menu commands are available also from the context menu.Just right click into the sequence window...
The registered version contains more chords and more scales...you can also save the sequences!
Excellent electric guitar tip : Try Allan Hollsworth...You will need some time to understand it...!!! "Questions" from Wardenclyffe tower is a god starting point...
Different positions of the same chord may sound different in a chord sequence...
Beginner tip:...the interval names are built on the major scale. The first step is 'Tonic'. A 2nd interval is the distance from the tonic to the second note in the major scale (two halftones=1 whole tone).The 3rd interval ,for the same reason, is 4 halftones long...A b3rd interval is a 3rd interval minus one halftone (3 halftones) , this one is also called minor 3rd...
Beginner tip:...11th is (nearly) the same as 4th ,... b11th=10th=3rd , #11th=b12th=b5th=#4th , #13th=#6th=b7th=b14th=bb15th !.... :-)
Chord construction tip: The chords should be constructed by 3rd (minor or major) intervals : 9th chord=1st+3rd+5th+7th+9th....OK., but 13th=1st+3rd+5th+7th+9th+11th+13th !!! : 7 notes !...and the (common) guitar has only 6 strings! ...yes...we have to left out something...what?...well , go to the next tip to know it...
The next tip: Usually these missing notes are either the 5th or the root (tonic) , but don't be shocked if any other tone is left out : many chords that have missing tones are used to create smooth voice leading (voice leading is the 'art' of connecting each note of a given chord with each note in a following chord)...go to the following tip...
The following tip: Usually is NOT possible to play the intervals as they should be. For example , the open Em7 (position 1) should be:1st+b3rd+5th+b7th (difficult (...not impossible) to play), but in fact is:1st+5th+7th+10th(=3rd)+12th(=5th)+15th(=Tonic)... (easy to play!)...that's why each position of a chord sounds different...
The chord naming conventions are NOT always used... (I am not sure that a convention exists...) : for example the chord that is commonly called C7 is in fact a C7b . The real C7 is the chord that is commonly called Cmaj7... another example : the Cm5b7bb si commonly called C Diminished...
You can change the fretboard background and colors. Just select fretboard settings/background image and load a bitmap file. You can also create your own bitmaps. (It should be about 540x97)
If you want to improvise over a scale just select it in the Scale Manager and choose 'find chord matches'. You can use all that chords to build a sequence according to that scale.
Excellent electric guitar tip : If you need to 'learn' some 'feeling' , take a late Pink Floyd album , and play it from beginning to end twenty times...
In the program folders you can find many useful examples (fretboard configurations,sequences...), just browse the CM32 folder...
To know if a scale can be played over two chord in a sequence : select the first chord,send it to chord manager,on the fretboard select scale matches,select the scale to test,hold the key in the scale manager,select the second chord and send it to chord manager...if the scale in the scale matches box remains unchanged you can play it over both chords...
Excellent electric guitar tip : Instinctive improvising is a good way to learn . Turn on the radio and start playing on the first song you hear...
Complex song composition:Start with a chord,then select scale matches from ScaleManager,choose a scale and select chord matches,choose a chord and select scale matches....and so on...now you have two chords per scale in the sequence...try to play it...
The fretboard allows you to 'freeze a configuration' and build your own licks...Experiment with it!
'Visual playing' tip : Step 1: Choose a chord in chord manager , choose a pattern , and start Continous Playing . Step 2 :select 'Current chord : All notes' on the Fretboard and play the checked notes...Experiment also with the unchecked notes and 'Learn' the effect that each note produces...
Advanced tip:Chormatic scale....Wow! Over strange chords works really well...when you play over a chord sequence and you find a chord that you have newer seen before : Take a walk on the Chromatic scale! (Memorize the chord position and play around it...)
